By the Fire We Carry: The Generations-Long Fight for Justice on Native Land by Rebecca Nagle

This month we’re reading Cherokee journalist Rebecca Nagle’s By the Fire We Carry: The Generations-Long Fight for Justice on Native Land (2024). Nagle’s work is a powerful reckoning over federal policy toward Indigenous people in the United States — a history built on broken promises. The book traverses more than 200 years of history as Nagle explores the story of the Muscogee from forced relocation in the 1830s to the fight for tribal land in the 2020s.

We will meet up for our book club chat over Zoom on Sunday, October 25 at 1PM EDT.
