Announcing September’s Pocosin Book Club Pick!

Are y’all ready for our first book club read-along?! I’m excited to kick off this part of our community. Books are at the heart of my life, personally and professionally. I want this to be a space where we can explore topics related to the past that, more than likely, will tell us something about our present. In future we might do some polling in order to choose our monthly read, but I want to make this first one easy. Get your library cards ready!

I’ve chosen Serena Zabin’s The Boston Massacre: A Family History (2023). I’ve had the chance to meet Zabin at past history conferences and I was so excited to hear about her work on the day to day life of Bostonians in the days leading up to and after the tragedy of March 5, 1770. As we’re also in the midst of commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, I thought this would be an interesting window into the very personal histories that are becoming more prominent in the field of American Revolution studies.

In September I’ll post a recap of what we’re reading with some of my own reflections, then we will meet up for a chat over Zoom at the end of the month (Date & Time TBD)!
